Tunisia goalkeeper Aymen Mathlouthi saved a free kick in the final moments of stoppage time to preserve the 2-1 win for the Eagles of Carthage. Like Tunisia, Panama was eliminated from knockout round contention before Thursday’s match. Panama heads home from its first World Cup appearance with three losses.
Wahbi Khazri scored off a cross from Oussama Haddadi to give Tunisia its first lead of the match, 2-1, in the 66th minute.
Tunisia’s Fakhreddine Ben Youssef leveled the score in the 51st minute.

Panama strikes first on a left-footed shot by Jose Luis Rodriguez in the 33rd minute that deflected off of Tunisia’s Yassine Meriah and into the net. It is the first time Panama has ever led a World Cup match.
Tunisia and Panama meet for the first time with third place in Group G on the line. Both sides suffered defeats in their first two games of the group stage at the hands of knockout round-bound powers England and Belgium. Tunisia played England close before conceding a late goal in a 2-1 loss, while Panama, making its first World Cup appearance, has been outscored, 9-1, in Russia.
