Lionel Messi Injury: Barcelona Boss Speaks Out Ahead of Sevilla Match
Messi didn’t take part in either of Argentina’s friendlies over the international break due to a slight injury issue.
He watched on from the stands as his side beat Italy 2-0 last Friday before witnessing Spain thrashed Argentina 6-1 on Tuesday evening, leading him to leave his seat early.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has since returned to the club to be assessed by club doctor, Dr Ricard Pruna.
Messi’s injury during the international break would have had Barcelona chiefs worried as they head into a busy set of fixtures, including their Champions League quarter-final first leg tie against Roma next week.
First up though is a La Liga match away at Sevilla and all eyes will be on whether Messi can return to fitness in time.
And Valverde has given fans hope the 30-year-old will be back in contention for the league match.
“I am calm. We will not get too worried ahead of time about this, tomorrow the medics will look at him and we will see what steps to take,” Valverde said.
“(Messi) finished the last game in La Liga well, against Athletic, with some pain but nothing too much.
“We are playing for everything this month, that’s the reality, in La Liga, the Copa and the Champions League. We are waiting for the players to come back from international duty.”
Messi is enjoying another stellar season at the Nou Camp with 35 goals across all competitions.
